A night of enchantment within the royal court

    July 11th and 12th, 2008
    in Hollywood California

Greetings everyone, so, the Labyrinth of Jareth Masqurade is just under two weeks away and everyone at the Sypher studio is pretty busy building and setting some new paths forward. I'm currently looking out at the largest sculpture we've done for the show yet... Around here we're nick-naming it the Rivendell stage, and stone feels good under the hand.

Some tickets for Friday are still available for those of you interested in showing off your finest costumes without the worry of dust. . .  A true merging of the modern and the revered traditions we enjoy safe within the heart of the Labyrinth Masquerade. . .

    Check it out at http://www.labyrinthmasquerade.com

There are a lot of strange thoughts going through my head today m'friends; it's been a strange year for just about everyone. Lots of changes and evaluations on what's truly important.

And we press on, seeking laughter and to build the realms on solid foundations that shall stand the sands of time for a while. And through it all, there's a light we share in our eyes when something works, a determination that crosses our gazes when time runs short and there's still stitching and challenges to meet. These are the moments worth living for. . . these are the moments we're working for, so why do we hold back on enjoying them? I find myself getting buried in the details and I think I need to look up and smile just a little more.

I'm going to try to relish life just a little more today, for we're doing what we want, and it's so easy to lose sight of that when the details begin to push in.

Keep your eyes bright and dreams ever brighter. You're stronger than your past and the future is yours for the chance.

    The Chemicals Between Us

Monday, June 30, 2008, 01:01 AM PST [General]

Well, I'll take a quick moment to glance up at a strange year. . .

The chemicals are flowing, styrene, urethane, stone and resin . . .the hammer strikes upon the edge of the form and structures are made of wood and sweat.

There are two weeks before the Labyrinth Masquerade and I'm honored to say I'm a little scared.

Our biggest puppet ever is still being clothed. . . our biggest elvish water temple ever is being hammered out. . . My noble friends and beloved crew are scattered on duties, outings, details and subtle hues on my own checkered board and I think of the words John Lennon said, "Life is what happens when you were making other plans."

These things seem to make the world a bit different than any other year. Ambitious I've always been, but dreaming foundations have some pretty solid paces to make. . . and now the fire kicks up and the season warms. . . there's laughter and sweat and focus.

When you're within the court this year my friends, place your hand on the stone walls, enjoy the stages and listen to the characters . . . there's a lot of introspection and detail we're weaving in this time that shall make the future even brighter

    And then the fire

Saturday, June 28, 2008, 09:52 PM PST [General]

Tis a rambling of words ahead of us. . .

Hmmm.... Well my noble friends, is it time to tell the tale and keep a careful watch on the road.

Tread so very carefully, for the day burns like embers upon your skin, promising only to burn out before all your roads are traveled.

I think, I shall begin with a quill, some ink and some blank paper. . .

We are lost in this absolute passage of time. Through dark corridors of uncertainty and the steep slopes of unwavering fate, we run through slivers of wind and razorblade deluges. An image of ourselves remains, even as time strips the reality of that image apart. So many people yield to the haunting moments of time, losing themselves faster and faster with an acceptance of age.

Others continue their race, they're lost children in a fight that consumes their perception. Never truly aging simply because they never yield. . . and they never stop running.

I ask myself, "What are you doing, Shawn?" as a dusty shower of thoughts and memories fall from my empty hands. Time it seems, is worth repeating.

I feel fragmented, echoes of lightning and the smoldering ashes of passion where water was thrown on hot coals. The muddied dirt remains to cloud the waters of my perception and cling to my skin in blackened hues. I feel spent, measuring reason with balance and setting a price on my dues.

We are lost in this absolute passage of time. . . regrets, weights and explorations collide like waves on ragged rocks. I share this with you as I cast these sea spray memories aside. I pray you you're also feeling off-kilter, you'll take a moment to do the same.

A change is waiting on my lips, a tearing set of words so ready to be spoken.
    The opposite of "I do".

It's time to deny the claws their grasp. It's time to smile and be free of these clouded days. Rain is very cleansing, so let it come. . . Through it all, the fires burn and the dreams ignite. . . with busy hands, maps and roads remain unexplored whilst a man who hardly wanders from halls may feel weary and tired of the travel his mind has set on him.

Through it all, we must remember, at the end of this life, our hearts must be as light as feathers. . . and to that aspiration, remember it's never too late to wash the dust from your form and loose a few ounces.

I'll tell you a tale of the glades and whispers. . . dark nights lit by the pyre as Joan of Arc paid for the sins of the Dauphin and the swears of Étienne de Vignolles.

But better now to be hopeful and true. . .

A quick glimpse into these realms

Wednesday, May 23, 2007, 10:16 AM PST [General]

The first blog upon RENSPACE for me. . . let's see, name, rank and serial number all check out and systems seem go ..

How do you all fare m'friends, my name is Shawn Strider, I'm the host of a rather elaborate fantasy masquerade ball within Los Angeles known as the Labyrinth of Jareth ( http://www.labyrinthmasquerade.com ) and my crew and I are currently quite busy putting our hands to the task of building and sculpting the event we've held for the last ten years. . .

Time it seems, burns so quickly, promising only to burn out. . . Within our elaborate dreams and metaphors we set our hands to building and dreaming; creating new foundations for those with bright eyes and vivid imaginations to share.

I'd think that Renspace is filled with fellow dreamers and creators who shalln't sit idle and watch the world go by, but rather raise their glasses and celebrate the victories your hands have forged.

And I'm glad to see a space like this come together.

Well met, Archer, and to everyone here.
